Phnom Penh, June 17, 2024 – In a landmark move to bolster Cambodia-India relations, Cambodia National Airlines, Angkor Air, has launched the first direct flight service between Phnom Penh and New Delhi. The inaugural flight took off on June 16, 2024, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the social, cultural, and economic exchanges between the two nations.
The ceremony, held at Phnom Penh International Airport, was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Neth Savoeun, Chairman of the National Committee for Civil Aviation Security and representing Prime Minister Hun Manet. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the strategic importance of this new air link in strengthening ties between Cambodia and India.
Cambodia Angkor Air, as the national carrier, has taken the lead in promoting tourism and socio-economic development through this initiative. The direct connection is expected to increase tourist visits to iconic destinations such as the Angkor Wat temples and facilitate Cambodian patients' access to high-quality, affordable medical treatments in India. Plans are also underway to expand flight networks to support further economic activities and cultural exchanges.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Cambodia Angkor Air maintained essential domestic routes between Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, upholding its commitment to service continuity despite reduced demand. The airline proudly supports the Kingdom of Cambodia and is optimistic about the potential of the new service due to shared religious heritage, healthcare needs, and historical ties.
The new route will operate four weekly flights, departing Phnom Penh for New Delhi at 16:45, with a flight duration of approximately 4 hours and 35 minutes. Return flights from New Delhi to Phnom Penh are scheduled for 20:50, starting at the end of October 2024.
Additionally, Cambodia Angkor Air offers numerous domestic and international routes, connecting major cities within Cambodia and extending to destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and beyond, enhancing its global connectivity.
